Why internal controls fail over time
Strong controls are not created once and left alone. Four patterns explain almost every control failure we find in growing firms.

Alleviate Tax is a Tampa CPA firm built around one specialty. We help small and mid-size businesses pay the right amount of tax: planned in advance, filed accurately, and documented well enough to defend.
Why Alleviate Tax
Most accounting firms sell everything to everyone. We decided to be very good at one thing instead.
We do not sell insurance, manage portfolios or dabble in everything. Tax planning and compliance is the whole business, which is why we can go deeper on it than a generalist firm.
Our managing partner is both a CPA and a Certified Internal Auditor. Positions get documented when they are taken, not reconstructed three years later when someone asks.
You work with the person making the decisions on your file. Small and mid-size businesses get senior judgment, not a junior preparer and an annual invoice.
What we do
Planning that happens before the year closes. Compliance that reconciles to your books. Representation for when a tax authority comes knocking.

How we work
Two things separate a good tax outcome from an average one: whether the thinking happened early enough to matter, and whether the position was documented well enough to hold.
Industry focus
Florida charges no personal income tax, which leads a lot of property owners to assume there is little to plan for. The opposite is true: depreciation, exchanges, contract accounting and passive activity rules make this one of the most planning-sensitive sectors there is.
From a first rental property through to a general contractor working across three states.
Leadership
Managing Partner
Donna has spent her career on both sides of the file: first as an auditor at Dixon Hughes Goodman, then in tax at RSM US and Crowe, and since 2020 as a partner at Alleviate Tax. That combination is unusual, and it is the reason our tax positions are built to be examined rather than merely filed.
Getting started
No lengthy sales process. Four steps from first call to an ongoing relationship.
Thirty minutes, no charge. You describe the business, we tell you where we would look first and whether we are the right fit.
We read the last two or three returns and your current numbers, then come back with what we found: planning opportunities and compliance gaps both.
A written engagement letter with fixed fees. You know what is included and what it costs before any work begins.
Quarterly planning touchpoints, clean compliance filings, and someone who answers the phone when something changes.
